Ethical Symposium – Polish Society of Internal Medicine
May 26-27, 2017
There were approximately 150-200 people at the Ethics Symposium and 3,000-4,000 at the Polish Internal Medicine Meeting the next day. Most internists and physicians in attendance were from Poland. The Symposium and Meeting were held at the Juliusz Slowacki Theatre in Krakow, Poland. Conference facilities were brand new and in a beautiful setting on the Vistula River. During my visit I was able to meet with the President of the Polish Society of Internal Medicine and many other leaders, including the Minister of Health for Poland. I participated in three presentations: Ethical Consultations as Practical Support for Physicians in Making Medical Decisions, Ethical Consultations in Practice: Case Studies with Discussion, and Ethical Aspects of Withholding or Withdrawing Life-sustaining Treatment: A US Perspective. The Polish Society of Internal Medicine was a wonderful host.
