Society of General Internal Medicine and the ý Announce 2021 ProudtobeGIM Grantees

Alexandria, VA, November 2, 2021—The Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM) and the ý (ACP) are pleased to announce the 21 funded institutions for this year’s ProudtobeGIM grant cycle.

The ProudtobeGIM campaign was launched in 2015 by the Society of General Internal Medicine to expose medical students and residents to career opportunities in general internal medicine (GIM). The aim of the program is to inform students of the variety of amazing career options in GIM and the multitude of opportunities to be a leader in patient care, research, health policy, and medical education. The campaign’s website (proudtobegim.org) features GIM career resources for students and medical educators, including multiple videos, podcasts, and information on mentoring programs. Since 2015, SGIM has proudly funded over 80 medical institutions from across the US to host local events and educate young students and physicians about careers in general internal medicine.

For the third year, ACP has joined the ProudtobeGIM campaign and provided additional funding for institutions that applied in partnership with local ACP chapters.  Many of this year’s awardees partnered with local ACP chapters or other, local institutions on their applications. While only 21 applications were funded, this number actually represents almost 40 different institutions and ACP chapters.

“It’s exciting to see this successful campaign with SGIM continuing and it reminds us of the importance of internists and internal medicine throughout the U.S.,” said George M. Abraham, MD, MPH, MACP, President, ACP. “This program will aid medical students to understand the career options and opportunities in internal medicine that they have. We also encourage all students to utilize the ProudtobeGIM website to take advantage of the wealth of useful information as they look to the future and their choices.”
