ý names new Chief ý and Engagement Officer

PHILADELPHIA, April 11, 2022 – The ý (ACP) has named Cynthia (Daisy) Smith, MD, FACP, as ACP’s new Chief ý and Engagement Officer, effective May 2, 2022. Smith was chosen for this role as part of a national search and vetting process. 

“Daisy brings a perspective and vision to this role that is rooted in broad and relevant experience and an outstanding reputation with the internal medicine community,” said Darilyn Moyer, MD, FACP, ACP’s Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer. “As the needs of our internal medicine physician members continue to evolve, we look forward to strategically approaching our membership and engagement activities to support them in an often-challenging health care environment.” 

In her new role Smith will be responsible for the organization’s membership administration, development and engagement efforts. She will also serve as an ambassador for ACP in domestic and international forums, establishing and supporting relationships with other organizations in support of internal medicine physicians.

Smith has most recently served as ACP’s Vice President for Clinical Education where she led a multi-million-dollar federal grant on transforming clinical practice, served as ACP’s representative to the National Academy of Medicine Action Collaborative on Clinician Well-being, and served as a member of the American Board of Medical Specialties Advancing Practice Task Force.

Board certified in internal medicine, Smith has been a Fellow of ACP (FACP) since 2005. She practices primary care general internal medicine and is adjunct Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Smith earned her medical degree at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed her internal medicine residency at Massachusetts General Hospital. Prior to joining ACP, she served as an internal medicine program director and academic hospitalist at Lankenau Medical Center in Wynnewood, Pa.
